Care for Yourself Like a Loving Grandmother

Care for Yourself Like a Good Grandmother Would

Care for yourself like a good grandmother would.
People on Xiaohongshu often say: reparent yourself as good parents would.
Having tried this myself, I actually find the perspective of a “good grandmother” more helpful.
East Asian children often don’t really know what good parents are like, while imagining a good grandmother is easier.
When you are falling apart or hysterical, quietly stay with yourself. Tell yourself that you are good, unconditionally, and that you will be there for yourself, unconditionally.
Notice, allow, embrace, care.
Tell yourself to slow down; there is no need to rush. Parents might get impatient.
When you keep busy without resting, when you get lost in your devices, remind yourself to rest and spend time in nature.
Remind yourself to develop healthy relationships. Eat well, drink well, exercise, and play. Parents might push you to strive; a grandmother won’t.
Wish yourself happiness.
You are a wonderful person. Be tranquil and let things take their course, peaceful and happy, and you will keep getting better. You don’t need to force things or strive.
No demands at all to seek anything outside yourself.
A world-weary understanding of fate, equanimity, acceptance.
